Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory: where are thy zeal and thy mighty acts? the yearning of thy heart and thy compassions are restrained toward me. For thou art our Father, though Abraham knoweth us not, and Israel doth not acknowledge us: thou, O Jehovah, art our Father; our Redeemer from everlasting is thy name." — Isaiah 63:15-16 (ASV)
And behold from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory: where is thy zeal and thy strength, the sounding of thy bowels and of thy mercies toward me? Are they restrained? Doubtless thou art our father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not; thou, O Lord, art our father, our redeemer; thy name is from everlasting.
That last sentence may be read, "Your name is, our Redeemer, from everlasting." This is a sweet plea with God: "We have offended you; but we are still your children. We have wandered from you; but we are still yours, bought with a price. Your name of 'Redeemer' is not a temporary one; it is from everlasting to everlasting, therefore look on your poor children again. Do not leave us to perish."
