Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"For thus saith Jehovah, Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout for the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O Jehovah, save thy people, the remnant of Israel. Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the uttermost parts of the earth, [and] with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall they return hither." — Jeremiah 31:7-8 (ASV)
For thus says the LORD: Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nation, you publish, you praise, and say, O LORD, save your people, the remnant of Israel. Behold, I will bring them—
Notice the prayer and the answer. The prayer is put into our mouths, and before we hardly have time to utter it, the answer comes: O Lord, save your people, the remnant of Israel. Behold, I will bring them—
For thus saith the LORD; Sing with gladness, for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O LORD, save thy people, the remnant of Israel. Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall return thither.
Whatever God does, he does thoroughly. When he restores his ancient people, he will not leave the weak ones behind, and if, today, we are enjoying his presence, the most afflicted and the most infirm among us will know what the joy of the Lord means. The Lord grant it, and we will praise his holy name.
