SCRIPTURE

"Yea, the stork in the heavens knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle-dove and the swallow and the crane observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the law of Jehovah." — Jeremiah 8:7 (ASV)

Indeed, the stork in the heaven knows her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people do not know the judgment of the LORD.

The birds take wing across the sea when the dampness of autumn comes; and presently, when spring returns, they twitter about our roofs again, punctual to the appointed time. But people do not come to God in their season; they do not fly from their sins, they do not return to the Lord. The crane and the swallow rebuke the foolishness of people who do not know the time to return to God, and do not know their way back to Him.

Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the LORD.

When God's judgments are being experienced, it is high time to repent. But these people did not think of such a thing; they were not half so sensible as migratory birds, which come and go as the seasons guide them.
