SCRIPTURE

"Lo, all these things doth God work, Twice, [yea] thrice, with a man, To bring back his soul from the pit, That he may be enlightened with the light of the living." — Job 33:29-30 (ASV)

Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man, to bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

The chastisement of sickness and the flagellation of pain whip the sinner back to him who alone can save him. These are the black dogs of the Great Shepherd with which he brings back wandering sheep until they come again under his crook, and he leads them into green pastures.
