"Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing, And I have heard the voice of [thy] words, [saying], I am clean, without transgression; I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me: Behold, he findeth occasions against me, He counteth me for his enemy:" — Job 33:8-10 (ASV)
Surely you have spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of your words, saying, ‘I am clean without transgression; I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me. Behold, he finds occasions against me, he counts me as his enemy.’
Elihu puts the case very plainly. “There, Job, you have said that you are perfectly innocent, and yet you are made to suffer. You have brought a charge against God, that he seeks occasion against you, and treats you, who have always been his faithful friend, as though you were his enemy. You said—”
