SCRIPTURE

"And that thou shouldest visit him every morning, And try him every moment? How long wilt thou not look away from me, Nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle?" — Job 7:18-19 (ASV)

Blow followed blow in quick succession. Pain came fast upon the heels of pain until Job seems to have had no rest from his anguish.

This is the mournful moaning of a man on a sick-bed, worn out with long-continued grief. Do not judge it harshly. You may have to use such words yourself, one day; and if you ever do, then do not judge yourself harshly, but say, "I am only now where that eminent servant of God, the patriarch Job, once was, and the Lord who delivered him will also deliver me."
