Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"Then he poureth water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples` feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. So he cometh to Simon Peter. He saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?" — John 13:5-6 (ASV)
And began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
You must lay the stress on the pronouns in order to get the full force of the original. "Lord, dost THOU wash my feet?" The contrast is between Peter's Master and himself.
