Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"These things have I spoken unto you, while [yet] abiding with you. But the Comforter, [even] the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you." — John 14:25-26 (ASV)
These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
That is the teaching. The Holy Spirit does not reveal anything new to us. He brings to our remembrance what has already been said and written in the inspired Word.
While the Book conveys to us the outward sense, the Holy Ghost conveys to us the inner meaning. The embodiment of truth you have in this Book, but the truth itself, dealing with the conscience, and heart, and spirit, must be brought home by the Author of the Book, by the Holy Ghost Himself.
These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Brothers and sisters, should we not do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, since the Father Himself does everything in that name? Even concerning the sending of the Comforter, Christ says, whom the Father will send in my name. Then, He would certainly have the Father and His children acting on the same principles: the Father glorifying Christ by sending the Spirit in His name, and we ourselves glorifying Christ by presenting our prayers and praises in that one, worshipful name.
