Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"These things have I spoken unto you in dark sayings: the hour cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in dark sayings, but shall tell you plainly of the Father. In that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you; for the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came forth from the Father. I came out from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go unto the Father." — John 16:25-28 (ASV)
These things have I spoken to you in proverbs: but the time comes, when I will no longer speak to you in proverbs, but I will show you plainly of the Father. At that day you will ask in my name: and I do not say to you, that I will pray the Father for you: For the Father himself teaches you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. I came forth from the Father, and have come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
Here are four unfathomable depths: I came forth from the Father, — there is Christ's eternal pre-existence. And have come into the world, — there is his incarnation. Again, I leave the world, — there is his death, resurrection, and ascension into the glory of God. And go to the Father, — there is his exaltation to the Father's right hand.
