Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for those whom thou hast given me; for they are thine: and all things that are mine are thine, and thine are mine: and I am glorified in them. And I am no more in the world, and these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thy name which thou hast given me, that they may be one, even as we [are]." — John 17:9-11 (ASV)
For they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee.
And now they are left. Their great guardian and protector has gone. They have no visible Head left. I am no more in the world, but these are in the world. You and I know that we are in the world.
The world makes us know that. We are in an enemy's country. We are in a land which is not our rest; and however happy our portion may be in Christ, the world takes care that we should understand that we are aliens and foreigners in it, hurrying through it towards our abiding home.
