Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find no crime in him." — John 18:38 (ASV)
Pilate said to him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, I find in him no fault at all.
He did not want an answer. He merely thought it such an unnecessary trivial matter to talk about truth—he himself had such a slight idea of what the word might mean—that when he had said, What is truth? he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, I find in him no fault at all. That was the truth about the Truth, from the lips of a man who cared nothing about truth, yet who was compelled to bear this testimony, I find in him no fault at all.
