Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"They took Jesus therefore: and he went out, bearing the cross for himself, unto the place called The place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha:" — John 19:17 (ASV)
And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha:
Probably a knoll of rock which today stands outside the city gate looking wonderfully like a skull, with two depressions in the rock which at a distance appear like eyes. This was the common place of execution, the Tyburn, the Old Bailey of Jerusalem.
