Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"but when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: howbeit one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and straightway there came out blood and water." — John 19:33-34 (ASV)
But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was dead already, they did not break his legs: but one of the soldiers with a spear pierced him twice, and immediately there came out blood and water.
See how, even after death, his heart poured out tribute for us. We not only have the love of Christ's heart blessing us while he lives, but after he died, there was the stream of blood and water to cleanse us from sin's guilt and power.
