SCRIPTURE

"And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, lest his works should be reproved." — John 3:19-20 (ASV)

That light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

This is the secret of unbelief. This is the reason for all opposition to Christ. It is love of sin. Trace it home to its den and lair, and you will find that it is love of sin that breeds hatred of Christ. Men do not see because they do not want to see. They do not want to see too much for fear that they might be uneasy in their present state of life. So they kick against Christ, and try to put out the light of his gospel, for fear that they might be reproved by it.
