SCRIPTURE

"Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his sons, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Every one that drinketh of this water shall thirst again: but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up unto eternal life." — John 4:12-14 (ASV)

Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst: –

You know that there are some who preach of a salvation that does not save; they teach that one may be a child of God today and a child of the devil tomorrow. That is like the water in Jacob's well: Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again. But Christ's salvation is of a very different kind: Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst: –

Are you greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

These words set forth the wonderful nature of divine grace. They certainly greatly err who suppose that we can ever receive it, and yet, after all, be left to perish without it. No; but once it is imparted to us, it continues to spring up within us, like a well that never runs dry. It is the living and incorruptible seed, which liveth and abideth for ever. It is of the very nature and essence of the grace of God that it is indestructible. It cannot be taken away from the heart in which it has been implanted by the Holy Spirit.
