Charles Spurgeon Commentary John 4:17-18

"The woman answered and said unto him, I have no husband. Jesus saith unto her, Thou saidst well, I have no husband: for thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: this hast thou said truly." — John 4:17-18 (ASV)

Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

You can imagine her astonishment – her blank amazement as the secret story of her life was thus repeated to her.
