Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how doth he now say, I am come down out of heaven?" — John 6:42 (ASV)
And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that he says, I came down from heaven?
This is just the way with men; they judge by outward appearances. And if the gospel comes to them as a thing beloved by poor men, if it is preached with much eloquence, if the service is without the attractions of sweet music or of gaudy attire, they immediately say there can be nothing in it. O blind bats, when God veils Himself in human flesh, can it be otherwise?
