Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"But Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said unto them, Doth this cause you to stumble? [What] then if ye should behold the Son of man ascending where he was before?" — John 6:61-62 (ASV)
When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
What will you say then?
When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said to them, Does this offend you? What if you shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
He who is offended at any gospel truth may expect to be still more offended, for there are higher and deeper doctrines than Jesus had then uttered. If you stagger under the elementary lessons, what will you do when you get into the grammar school of divinity, and begin to learn the loftier lessons of the truth of God? Oh, for a faith that never staggers when Christ speaks, and that believes whatever he reveals!
