"One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter`s brother, saith unto him, There is a lad here, who hath five barley loaves, and two fishes: but what are these among so many?" — John 6:8-9 (ASV)

One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him, There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?

These small fishes were commonly cured and dried by that lake, little fish very much resembling sardines or anchovies, and they were eaten dry as a relish with bread. This lad had five barley cakes and a couple of these little fish. That was all.
