SCRIPTURE

"As he spake these things, many believed on him. Jesus therefore said to those Jews that had believed him, If ye abide in my word, [then] are ye truly my disciples;" — John 8:30-31 (ASV)

As he spake these words, many believed on him. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed:

"'If you became my disciples because of what I said, will you believe what I will yet say? Are you prepared to take in still further revelations, and to receive whatever I shall teach you? If so, 'then are ye my disciples indeed.''"

As he spake these words, many believed on him. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

It is not a mere profession that makes someone a saint; there must be a continuance of well-doing. We apprentice young men for a short time, but no one belongs to Christ unless he belongs to him forever. There must be an entire giving up of oneself, in life and until death, to the Lord's cause.
