Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin: but now ye say, We see: your sin remaineth." — John 9:41 (ASV)
Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
"If what you have done had been done in utter ignorance, you would have been comparatively guiltless; but you have sinned against light and knowledge, with a most determined antipathy to the grace of God, and therefore your sin remains in all its scarlet hue to condemn you."
Ye should have no sin;
If you really did not know better, were totally and altogether without knowledge – then you would have no sin compared with what you now have.
But now you say, We see; therefore your sin remains.
You acknowledge that you have sinned with your eyes open, and, therefore, your sin is all the greater.
Jesus said to them, If you were blind,
Really could not see.
