"Which of these three, thinkest thou, proved neighbor unto him that fell among the robbers? And he said, He that showed mercy on him. And Jesus said unto him, Go, and do thou likewise." — Luke 10:36-37 (ASV)
Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbor unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him.
Oh, you lawyer, why did you not say "The Samaritan"? Of course, he did not like to use that word. Oh, no, we never mention them—the "Samaritans." The Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans; so he would not honestly say "The Samaritan"; but he made a roundabout of it and said, He that shewed mercy on him.
