"And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first bathed himself before dinner." — Luke 11:38 (ASV)

Not because Christ's hands needed washing, but because it was the custom of the Pharisees to wash before eating, and our Lord broke through the customs as he was accustomed to do, because he cared nothing for their inventions.
