Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"And when he was come out from thence, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press upon [him] vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things; laying wait for him, to catch something out of his mouth." — Luke 11:53-54 (ASV)
And as he said these words to them, the scribes and Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things, lying in wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.
Thus they proved the truth of the accusations that he had brought against them; but all their plots and traps were in vain until the hour appointed for his great sacrifice to be offered on Calvary.
