SCRIPTURE

"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen [gathereth] her own brood under her wings, and ye would not!" — Luke 13:34 (ASV)

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killed the prophets and stone those who are sent to you; how often I would have gathered your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not!

There was their weakness, they were like a brood of chickens; there was his power to protect them, like a hen gathers her brood under her wings; yet there was their infatuation, that they would rather perish than come and be sheltered beneath his almighty wings: and you would not.
