SCRIPTURE

"Whosoever doth not bear his own cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple." — Luke 14:27 (ASV)

If there is any cross-bearing involved in Christianity – such as the cross of holy living, or the cross of believing old-fashioned doctrines, and not being "abreast of the times" – if there is any sort of cross which is involved in the conscientious discharge of our duty as followers of Christ, we must bear it, or else we cannot be his disciples. Our Lord's words are very clear and explicit: "And whosoever doth not bear his cross, – whoever he may be, whatever pretensions or professions he may make, – if he does not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple."
