"For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples; A light for revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of thy people Israel. And his father and his mother were marvelling at the things which were spoken concerning him; and Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this [child] is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel; and for a sign which is spoken against;" — Luke 2:30-34 (ASV)
For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared before the face of all people; a light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel. And Joseph and his mother marveled at those things which were spoken of him. And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel;
There were many who fell through their offenses against Jesus: but blessed be his name, there are still many who rise through him, rise first to newness of life on earth and afterward to resurrection life in glory. Jesus is set for both; he must be to one the savor of death to death, and to another he must be the savor of life to life.
