SCRIPTURE

"And a certain maid seeing him as he sat in the light [of the fire], and looking stedfastly upon him, said, This man also was with him. But he denied, saying, Woman, I know him not." — Luke 22:56-57 (ASV)

But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.

And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.

See how the most courageous are often cast down by the very slightest means. The tongue of a poor, feeble woman is too much for this valiant Peter, who said that he would never deny his Master, even though he should die with him.
