SCRIPTURE

"And when he knew that he was of Herod`s jurisdiction, he sent him unto Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem in these days." — Luke 23:7 (ASV)

He sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time (Luke 23:7).

By this, he served two purposes. First, he would get out of the predicament himself; and second, he would compliment Herod by acknowledging that, since the man was a Galilean, he was under Herod's jurisdiction. What devices people have to escape from responsibility! This vacillating Pilate knew what was right, and did not do it.

He would be very glad to avoid coming to any decision about it at all.
