SCRIPTURE

"And one of them, named Cleopas, answering said unto him, Dost thou alone sojourn in Jerusalem and not know the things which are come to pass there in these days? And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:" — Luke 24:18-19 (ASV)

And one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said to him, Are you only a stranger in Jerusalem, and have not known the things that have happened there in these days? And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and in word before God and all the people: (Luke 24:18–19).

Just as a teacher, though he knows more than the children, still asks them questions to see what they know, so did the Savior, What things? ... And they said to him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in word and deed. I should have said, in deed and word. You see my mistake. That is how we phrase it, word and deed, because our words go first; but with Christ, the practical comes first, and then the doctrinal begins.
