"And he took it, and ate before them." — Luke 24:43 (ASV)

And he took it, and did eat before them.

Some of the older versions add, "and gave the rest to them," which I think was very likely the case. It would be all the more convincing to them if he really ate before them, and then they also partook of the same food of which he had also partaken.
