SCRIPTURE

"And all bare him witness, and wondered at the words of grace which proceeded out of his mouth: and they said, Is not this Joseph`s son?" — Luke 4:22 (ASV)

And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?

There! Did it matter whose son Jesus was? Yet, in order to lessen the force and even the blessedness of divine truth, men turn their thoughts to the Speaker rather than to what he says. How foolish!

And all bore him witness, and wondered at the gracious word which proceeded out of his mouth.

They did not at first find fault with or deny what Jesus said; his doctrine was pleasing and comforting, and they were ready to accept it.

And they said, Is this not Joseph’s son?

Now they began to question: "Is this not the son of the carpenter?"
