Charles Spurgeon Commentary Luke 9:45

"But they understood not this saying, and it was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask him about this saying." — Luke 9:45 (ASV)

They were not yet spiritual enough to discern His meaning; and when they had even a faint glimmering of it, it made them feel so sad, so cast down, that they did not dare to go and ask Him to explain it fully. Do you not think that you and I may have something pressing upon us tonight that would all vanish if we only took it to Jesus? And yet we fear to ask Him. Let us drive away that fear, and be familiar with our Lord, and tell Him everything that troubles our spirit.
