SCRIPTURE

"And when his disciples James and John saw [this], they said, Lord, wilt thou that we bid fire to come down from heaven, and consume them? But he turned, and rebuked them." — Luke 9:54-55 (ASV)

And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, You do not know what manner of spirit you are of.

When you read the Old Testament, you will remember that the spirit of the Old Testament was in accordance with the law of Moses; but you are not under the law but under grace, and the spirit of Christ is another spirit, not the spirit of judgment, bringing down fire from heaven, but the spirit of mercy, bringing life and blessing from above.
