Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"Thou knowest the commandments, Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor thy father and mother. And he said unto him, Teacher, all these things have I observed from my youth." — Mark 10:19-20 (ASV)
Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
Possibly, in the ordinary sense of the words, he had observed these commandments, but Christ tested the reality of his declaration.
You know the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honor your father and mother. And he answered and said to him, Master, all these I have observed from my youth.
And he probably had very cautiously and anxiously done so, yet, for all that, he had not really kept all those commands without a flaw. We are truly sure of that, but still his eyes were not open to see his own shortcomings.
