SCRIPTURE

"But he saith, Nay; lest haply while ye gather up the tares, ye root up the wheat with them." — Matthew 13:29 (ASV)

The darnel was so plentiful, had become so intermixed with the wheat, and was so much like it, that it would be impossible to remove the one without also uprooting the other. In fact, there was a false wheat that grew among the true wheat, and to separate these would be dangerous to the crop.

Hasty disciplinarians have often cast out the best and retained the worst. Where evil is clear and open, we should not hesitate to deal with it; but where it is questionable, we should hold our hand until we have fuller guidance.
