"He saith unto them, But who say ye that I am?" — Matthew 16:15 (ASV)
This is a far more searching question. Our personal thoughts of Jesus touch a vital point. Our Lord presupposes that His disciples would not have the same thoughts as “men” had. They would not follow the spirit of the age and shape their views by those of the “cultured” persons of the period. They would have formed a judgment, each one for Himself, by what they had heard and seen while in His company. Therefore, He inquired, But whom say ye that I am? Let each reader answer the question before going further.
