Charles Spurgeon Commentary Matthew 19:30

"But many shall be last [that are] first; and first [that are] last." — Matthew 19:30 (ASV)

Thus our Lord sums up His teaching concerning rich men and gives us the aphorism now before us, which He has already illustrated and intends to repeat further on in the sixteenth verse of the next chapter. Here, our King is seen arranging human positions as they appear from His throne. To His eye, many first are last and many last are first, and He will in His kingdom place men according to the divine order.
