SCRIPTURE

"And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How did the fig tree immediately wither away?" — Matthew 21:20 (ASV)

The Lord’s word was so very quickly fulfilled, that the disciples wondered. We marvel that they marveled. By this time, they should have grown accustomed to deeds of power and to the rapidity with which they were performed.

Even to this day, some doubt a work if it is speedy and thus imitate the cry, How soon is the fig tree withered away! Whatever the Lord does, He does perfectly, completely. The fig tree was “presently” destroyed.
