Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"Watch therefore, for ye know not the day nor the hour." — Matthew 25:13 (ASV)
Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
That is, we do not know when it will be. Some have foolishly said, "We do not know the day, or the hour, of Christ's coming, but we may find out the year." We shall not do anything of the kind; the time is hidden altogether, it is not revealed to us, and it shall not be known until, suddenly, the Lord himself shall come in the clouds, with his bright heavenly retinue, to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all those who believe.
Therefore, be always on the watch, beloved, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. God help us to be ready for his appearing at any moment, for his dear name's sake! Amen.
Our Lord again instructs His followers in the duty of watchfulness, as in Matthew 24:42, and repeats, in a slightly-altered form, the reason previously given, “For you know neither the day nor the hour when the Son of man comes.” It is pointless to say that we may find out the year, if not the day and hour, of Christ’s coming. The time of the end is hidden and will not be known until suddenly He will appear “in the clouds of heaven in power and great glory.” It should be our one great concern to be sure that we will be ready to meet Him whenever He may come.
