Charles Spurgeon Commentary Matthew 25:40

"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these my brethren, [even] these least, ye did it unto me." — Matthew 25:40 (ASV)

Christ is much more involved in the sorrow of His brothers and sisters than we sometimes think. Are they hungry? He says, "I was a hungered." Do they thirst? He says, "I was thirsty." The sympathy of Christ is continuous, and down through the ages He will perpetually incarnate Himself in the suffering bodies of His tested and afflicted people. Therefore, we have the opportunity to serve Him as long as we are here.
