"and as they were eating, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began to say unto him every one, Is it I, Lord?" — Matthew 26:21-22 (ASV)

And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. And they were exceeding sorrowful, —

There was enough to make them sorrowful in the fact that their Lord had just told them that one of the twelve who were his bodyguard, his closest companions, his nearest and dearest friends, would betray him. They were exceeding sorrowful,
