"Pilate saith unto them, What then shall I do unto Jesus who is called Christ? They all say, Let him be crucified." — Matthew 27:22 (ASV)

Now the die is cast. The choice of the multitude is made: Barabbas is preferred to Jesus. The Lord of glory had been sold by Judas for the price of a slave, and now a robber, a murderer, and a leader in sedition is a greater favorite with the people than the Prince of life.

Were there no voices raised in Christ’s favor? Were there none out of all that multitude whose sick He had healed, whose hunger He had satisfied, who would remember Him in that day and ask that He might be spared?

No, not one. There were none in the crowd silently sympathizing with the Savior. They all said, “Let him be crucified.”
