"and they sat and watched him there. And they set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS." — Matthew 27:36-37 (ASV)
And sitting down they watched him there; and set up over his head his accusation written: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
By their own confession, he died for being a King, and he died for being too greatly good, too royal in his love. He, being King of kings, died that you and I might live forever, and be kings and priests to God.
