SCRIPTURE

"For if ye love them that love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?" — Matthew 5:46 (ASV)

Any ordinary man will love those who love him; even tax collectors and the scum of the earth can rise to this poor, starving virtue. Saints cannot be content with such a groveling standard.

“Love for love is manlike,” but “love for hate” is Christlike. Should we not desire to live up to our high calling?
