SCRIPTURE

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal:" — Matthew 6:19 (ASV)

Do not spend your life gathering wealth. This would be degrading to you as servants of the heavenly kingdom. If you accumulate either money or clothing, your treasures will be vulnerable to “moth and rust,” and you may be deprived of both by dishonest men.

That earthly things decay, or are taken from us, is an excellent reason for not making them the great objects of our pursuit. Do not hoard for thieves; do not gather for corruption. Accumulate for eternity and send your treasures into the land where you are going. To live for the sake of growing rich is a gilded death in life.
