SCRIPTURE

"And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto the measure of his life? And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these." — Matthew 6:27-29 (ASV)

Christ then asks whether, by worrying, they can add a single cubit to their lives—for I understand His question to mean whether they could, by any means, make their lifespan any longer than it was. They could not do so; they could shorten it, and very often, consuming worry has brought people to their graves. Then Christ told them to consider how the lilies grow, so that even Solomon could not excel them in beauty.
