SCRIPTURE

"If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" — Matthew 7:11 (ASV)

We, although evil ourselves, correct our children’s mistakes in their requests to us. Much more will our all-wise and good heavenly Father correct in His gifts the errors in our prayers. He will give the good things we did not ask for and withhold the harmful things we so unwisely requested. We know our children and know what is best for them, yet we are fallible, sinful creatures. Will not the perfectly good Father, who knows all things, arrange His gifts most graciously? Yes, we are sure He will.

“How much more!” says our Lord, and He does not say how much more, but leaves that to our meditations. We do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but He knows how to give in a way that befits His perfection, and He will do so. He will give good things, and especially His Holy Spirit, who is all good things in one. Lord, I would think more of You than of my own prayer, more of Your Son than of my own faith, and more of Your Holy Spirit than of all other good gifts.
