Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men; and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient [even] unto death, yea, the death of the cross." — Philippians 2:7-8 (ASV)
And was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
What a cruel and ignominious death for the Son of God to suffer! Did he lose anything by all this wondrous condescension?
Will you lose anything by any dishonour that may come upon you for Christ's sake, for the truth's sake? No; listen to what followed our Saviour's humiliation:
And took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself,
He had not descended low enough yet, though he had come down all the way from the Godhead to our manhood: he humbled himself.
