SCRIPTURE

"and the smoke of their torment goeth up for ever and ever; and they have no rest day and night, they that worship the beast and his image, and whoso receiveth the mark of his name. Here is the patience of the saints, they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus." — Revelation 14:11-12 (ASV)

And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Truly, Rome has tried the patience of the saints. What country is there in Europe which has not been dyed crimson with the blood of the martyrs? The rack, the stake, the brook, the dungeon, the fires, all sorts of cruelties have been practiced upon those who keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. Let the valleys of Piedmont speak; do they not cry aloud to our God for vengeance?

Let the St. Bartholomew massacre bear witness before the living God. Let the stakes of Smithfield say, Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
